Disposable email address: why to use it

A variation is to use a catch-all address, then forward it to the real mailbox using wildcard characters. Many mail servers allow the use of an asterisk (*), which means “any number of characters”. This makes the whitelist automatic and requires the administrator to update the blacklist only occasionally. In fact, the user has an address, but it contains wildcard characters, such as “me.*@my.domain”, which will match any inbound address starting with “me”. and ends with “@ my.domain”. This is very similar to the “+” notation, but it may be even less obvious, as the address appears to be completely normal.

Trapped in the crossfire between undesirable Internet and administrative and user attempts to deal with them, remote access providers struggle to present a total solution. A user may find it necessary to provide a conventional looking email address (or create a separate mailbox in the worst case) to a public / commercial entity if necessary.

Disposable email addresses can be canceled if someone is using the address in a manner other than intended by the creator. Examples: accidentally sending an email to the spam list or when the address was received by spammers. Alternatively, the user can simply choose not to receive any further correspondence from the sender.

A fake email address defines a different and unique email address for each combination of sender and recipient. This is most useful in scenarios where someone can sell or post an email address for spam lists or other fraudulent people. The most common such situations are associated with online registration of websites that offer discussion groups, message boards, chat rooms, online stores, and file hosting services.
